Abstract
ABSTRACT
Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that can significantly
affect the quality of life of those who suffer from it. In addition to causing physical
complications such as damage to vital organs, diabetes also frequently impacts
mental health. Emotional mental disorders are one of the consequences of DM,
often arising due to the lengthy and demanding treatment process. Objective: To
describe the emotional mental disorders experienced by diabetes mellitus patients
at RSA Muntilan. Method: This research used a quantitative approach with a
descriptive research design. The population consisted of diabetes mellitus
patients, with a sample of 40 respondents selected through accidental sampling.
The instrument used was the Self-Reporting Questionnaire-20 (SRQ-20). Results:
The majority of respondents were in the pre-elderly age category, with 20 patients
(50.0%), and most were male, totaling 21 patients (52.5%). The highest education
level among patients was senior high school, accounting for 21 patients (52.5%).
Regarding emotional mental disorders, 26 respondents (65.0%) were categorized
as normal, while 14 respondents (35.0%) were indicated to have emotional
mental disorders. Conclusion: Most diabetes mellitus patients at RSA Muntilan
fall within the normal category for emotional mental status; however, 35% are
indicated to experience emotional mental disorders. Recommendation: Routine
screening and psychological support are necessary to detect and manage
emotional mental disorders in diabetes patients at an early stage.
