Abstract

Papaya plant (Carica papaya L.) has the potential to heal wounds including blisters, cuts, burns, and stab wounds. This study aims to provide differentiation of pharmaceutical literature, especially in wound treatment, and improve the use of papaya plants (Carica papaya L.) into standardized herbal medicine preparations or even phytopharmaka in the future. This article discusses the effectiveness of papaya plants (Carica papaya L.) on wound healing through a narrative review, from the Google Scholar database published in the last 5 years (2016-2020). The results of the review of 10 papers stated that papaya plants (Carica papaya L.) contain a variety of compounds including enzymes papain, saponins, flavonoids that play a role in the wound healing process. The data in the review showed that the administration of papaya plants (Carica papaya L.) which includes the sap, stems, seeds, and leaves has a good effect on the wound healing process and has antibacterial activity that causes wound infections.
