Abstract

Background: Cholesterol levels are components that make up fat in which there are various components such as triglycerides, phospholipids, free fatty acids, and cholesterol. Cholesterol has the function of cell membrane walls building in the body. Cholesterol is a disease often found and spread throughout the world. Cholesterol is associated with a lack of physical activity and an unhealthy lifestyle. Objective : This study was to determine the effect of the extract of meniran (Phyllantus niruri L.) on old adults in the village of Banjarharjo, Salaman district. Methods: The research design used in this study was a Quasy Experiment with Two Group pre-test and post-test designs. Selection of samples using purposive sampling. This study used the independent t test with α = 0.05. The sample used consisted of 44 respondents who were divided into two groups, namely 22 intervention groups and 22 control groups. Results: The results of statistical tests showed that there was an effect of meniran (Phyllantus niruri L.) extract on blood cholesterol levels in old adults in the village of Banjarharjo, Salaman district. The p-value is 0,000 where p <0.05. Conclusion: there is an effect of meniran extract (Phyllantus niruri L.) on blood cholesterol levels in old adults in Banjarharjo village, Salaman district. Suggestion: it is advisable to use this method if you have experienced signs of cholesterol.
