Abstract
Every year, books recording inventory in UMMgl library always increase. The process of data inventory that already exists and has been collected for 18 years is too much and it only uses a few tables, namely book tables, faculty tables, table of types of books that have not been normal in the process so that data anomalies and data repetition can occur. This study aims to minimize data anomalies of book inventory by compiling table of relations by using normalization to facilitate data manipulation and data search. This optimization uses normalization, which is by arranging tables in a database so that there is no redundancy (double) or duplicate data, which can cause data to become anomalies (deviations) when data manipulation operations occur such as adding, changing and deleting. The technique of grouping attributes from a relation form a good relation structure without redundancy. Organizing data into tables according to the needs of the user to eliminate data capture and reduce complexity facilitates data modification. Data is described in table form, then analyzed based on certain requirements to several levels namely unnormal, 1NF, 2NF, 3NF. In tables that have not been normal, redundancies occur that causes data anomalies include insertion anomalies, update anomalies, deletion anomalies. By using Normalization, the results obtained are data anomaly both update anomalies, insertion anomalies, and deletion anomalies can be minimized as it is expected.
